this high spec dell studio 13 looks pretty poor with ubuntu's brown and no 3d acceleration. Graphics are important these days and if you take a look at Vista, win7, OSX (leopard) then you see a clean sharp interface. I got the NVIDIA® GeForce® 9500M and had to install a beta driver from the Nvidia site, because the older drivers that were suggested by 'Hardware Drivers' had some irritating bugs. Since Dell chose the 1397 802.11a/g Half Mini-Card for the version with Ubuntu pre-installed, it may be easier to get that one to work. In fact, searching for that is how I stumbled upon your post. All I can tell you so far is that it doesn't work out of the box on a fresh Jaunty install. Where I live, Dell doesn't give the choice of a pre-installed Ubuntu, so I got the 1510 802.11n Half Mini-Card. The WLED screen is brighter, slimmer, weighs less and consumes less energy, so it's definitely an upgrade you'll want to consider. But it's still hotter than say the XPS M1330. Be sure to do a BIOS upgrade, as this does help a bit.
The Studio XPS 13 tends to get quite hot.
